We love sweet potatoes and often make homemade sweet potato fries as a side for dinner! Sometimes we make them in the oven but when I’m craving a really delicious, crunchy sweet potato fry I use this fabulous, mouth-watering recipe.
Sweet Potato Fries
All you need are sweet potatoes and frying oil.
Preheat oil to 400 degrees.
2 Secret Steps to Crunchy Sweet Potato Fries
I start by cutting my sweet potatoes into thin strips. I like to leave the skin on, but you can also peel them before you do this step. Once all of your sweet potatoes are cut, the first SECRET is to microwave the strips until they are slightly soft to the touch. Usually for 2 large potatoes , this equates to be about 3 minutes. (Microwave times vary, you just want to pre soften them before frying)
Once the sweet potato strips are softened go ahead and start frying!
When the fries start to take on a golden brown texture, remove from oil and place on a drying rack or paper towel so excess oil can drip off. Ready for SECRET 2? Place fries in the refrigerator until they are cool. This doesn’t take long, usually 10 minutes. Now that the fries are chilled you simply want to re-fry them to warm them up and make the outside skins crunchy. That’s it! Take them out and eat them as is, or top with parmesan cheese and parsley for a fancy flavor!
And then our favorite is to make homemade ranch dressing dipping sauce to go with it.
Bonus: We also make these as a side for Thanksgiving for the kids to go along with our Thanksgiving Muffin Tin Meal!
