“Mooom I’m BORED!!!” is heard so often in our house, I might just go crazy some days! It’s hard to come up with winner ideas when you’re in the middle of a million and one things. That’s why I thought I’d make a list that we can all reference back to!
Here are some favorites to entertain your kids those days they are bursting at the seams!
You can also make a “No More Bored Jar” and fill it with all these ideas. That way you’ll have a go-to when the kids are looking for something to do!
50 Free Activities For Kids
Backyard Fun
Mini marshmallow war
Water painting
Backyard scavenger hunt
Go camping (doesn’t have to be overnight to be fun!)
Built a fort! (use sticks, boards, blankets, or whatever you can find)
Messy art on cardboard or an old sheet
Play Twister with paint, shaving cream, or both!
Outdoor restaurant (set out a bunch of utensils, some dry goods and dirt and let them have at it!)
Water blob (fill plastic with water and seal shut)
Construction site with tinker toys, tools, trucks, sand and anything else!
Life-size chalk maze (our kids love to ride bikes through it or run through it!)
Nature weaving (make a loom with yarn and a forked branch then weave in anything- leaves, flowers, etc!)
Start a nature scrapbook (let them go to town picking weeds too)
Setup a sheet for a hammock (think simple — it can just be tied hanging over a sturdy table!)

Splash parks
Museum free days
Home Depot Kids Workshop
Farmers Markets (cute kids sometimes score free things or at least samples!)

Heads/tails or dice walk (i.e. 1=right, 2=straight, 3=left and so on. You flip or roll at each intersection!)
Local community free events — Some favorites here include: festival of family farms, berry days, cider pressing, beach tide exploration & magician shows)
Inside Fun
Volcanoes
Easy cooking project (no bake cookies, fruit salad- kids can help with a surprising amount!)
Ice cubes + shaving cream + food coloring= much fun
Breakfast for dinner
Colored bubble bath
Glow in the dark bubble bath (just add glowsticks!)
I-spy jar (Rice + small toys=all done! Just be sure to close the lid well 😉 )
Build a castle out of recyclables
Then let them decorate it!
Grow a plant
Spa day
Ice cream sundae bar (for a meal for extra fun!)
Read books (getting cozy or making a huge fort makes it even more fun!)
Wrestle
Huckle-buckle-beanstalk (Hide an item- like an eraser or small lego creation- and each person to find it says “huckle buckle beanstalk!” First person to find it gets to rehide it once everyone has found it!)
Send a letter or card to someone who needs some love
Send a letter to someone around the world
Listen to the radio (the old school kind with the antenna! Even better find songs you loved years ago!)
Pull out some momentos from your childhood and wow them with a few stories
Have a tea party (anything cut into bite-sized pieces served on small plates is suddenly charming and exciting!)
Listen to a book on Youtube (Dragons Love Tacos is a new favorite of ours!)
There you have it! Some of our best tricks! Hopefully this can help save some of your “Moooom!! I’m BORED!!!” days! Here we charge chores for using the word and it really helps cut down on its usage, but there are many days the kids are just bouncing all over needing some good outlet! These are some favorites!
