Rubber bands.
I used to only associate them with one thing, rubber band wars, but since I’m not a huge fan of shooting people or being shot at I shoved the pack of rubber bands deep in a drawer and left them there to collect dust. That is, until Holly Homer and Rachel Miller sent me a copy of their book, 101 Kids Activities, it rocked my little world with the idea of using rubber bands for art!
So as I was flipping through their book and see the words Rubber Band Splatter, I stopped and smiled. I love messy play so I was totally intrigued and had to try it for myself! {If you love messy play and living life a little outside the box, be sure to join our email newsletter where we are always sharing awesome projects!}
Materials
- Small box
- Construction paper, cut to fit the bottom of the box
- Rubber Bands
- 2 {or more} colors of paint
- Paintbrush {optional}
Directions
- Cut the construction paper to fit the bottom of the box and slip it in there.
- Stretch the rubber bands around the box.
- Using a paintbrush {or your fingers} cover the rubber bands with paint.
- BEST PART: Snap the rubber bands so they splatter all over the paper in the box. It can get a little messy so be sure to wear old clothes because some might splatter on you. It’s a great outside project or we just spread an old sheet on the ground.
