Ever since becoming a parent time has been turning three times as fast. It doesn’t matter what I do to try and slow it down it just keeps ticking faster and faster. The thought that life is going to pass me by has been consuming me lately.
As I lay on the ground next to my little girl snuggling, playing and chatting, I think to myself please slow down baby girl but then I see the joy in her eyes as she learns something new and suddenly my heart changes, You can do it baby girl, you can do it! Mama will be here each step of the way.
It was at this same time that Lemon Lime Adventures shared a beautiful post from Scholastic.com about creating a Bucket List for your little one. *mind blown* What a great idea!
Rather than wallow and drown in a pool of sadness that time is ticking away, I’m going to embrace all the moment I have with her and help her achieve her biggest dreams.
So her daddy and I started making her a “bucket list.” As she grows older we’ll let her edit and add to the list. Here’s what we have for her so far:
- Special getaway with just mommy. How cool if we could do this every year? I have lots of ideas on what we could do but ultimately I want to leave it up to Carmen where we go and what we do.
- Dates with daddy. This isn’t a do it once and check it off the list sort of item. It’s all about an ever growing and changing relationship between them. Starting with dancing in his arms, then on his toes and transforming during a father/daughter dance but never ending. *quick pause while I grab some tissues*
- Family trip to Israel. It was Corey and my favorite place to visit but it wouldn’t be fair that she miss out just because she wasn’t born yet.
- Beach trips. She’s already been once but you can never have too much beach time.
The list is short for now to allow room for Carmen to edit it as she grows older. You can make a bucket list too. If your kids are old enough work on them together, for little ones start a list for them but leave lots of room for their dreams.
*A shout out to my beautiful friend at Viivi N. Media for the photos in this post.*
