I’ve always been a huge fan of working smarter not harder but even still, I occasionally find myself accidentally slipping into doing things without thinking first. Doing them simply because they are on my list or because I was unable to say no. I was excited when Joe Boxer asked me to write a post to remind all of us, that sometimes, it’s ok to do less.
Before I met my husband, I was a VERY busy person! I used to balance 3 jobs and a very social calendar. I filled every waking moment with something. If I saw free time up ahead, I would fill it up because otherwise I wouldn’t know what to do with myself! But then my husband taught me the power of just chilling. Not all the time but occasionally taking the time to completely stop and treat myself with a little relaxation. The coolest thing happened after I relaxed: I was more productive after!
Have you ever noticed that? It’s kinda like magic!
You take a nap — wake up refreshed and more motivated.
You take a moment to snuggle with the kids on the couch — and suddenly your mood is uplifted.
So I was pretty excited when Joe Boxer sent me an Inactivity Tracker. Yes, you read that right. Inactivity — AKA a reminder to occasionally take a break. I’m sure I’m not the only mom that needs that.
But it also taught me something else…
I let my husband wear it for a day and I was shocked at the results! Seeing how many steps he took at work blew my mind but that wasn’t what got to me most. It was all the steps he took when he got home. Helping with our daughter, helping clear the table and clean the kitchen. The man doesn’t take a break.
I’ve written several posts on taking time for mom but I forgot that there are 2 people in our marriage that need a to take time for themselves. It might be time to treat our husbands to some rest!
Take an evening off with your hubby! Order some pizza, put on your pajamas, pop in a movie and just chill! We did it and the night rocked! To help make sure we really chilled, we used the Kmart Joe Boxer Inactivity Tracker to monitor all the activity we didn’t do — embracing our inner-chill!
The Inactivity Tracker band tracked and measured our movements (and non movements!) throughout the day, paired with a free app that recorded it all and reminded us that sometimes it’s ok to “turn off” and hop in the slow lane for a while.
With tax day behind us it’s time to enjoy a little off time!
