Is it bath time? Make bath time a little more fun tonight with a batch of homemade bathtub paint. I absolutely love this paint because it allows for messy play for the kids with super easy clean up for us mom!
Homemade Bathtub Paint:
You’ll need:
- Paint {or food coloring}
- Shaving Cream
- Dish soap {optional}
Directions:
1. Squirt a bunch of shaving cream in a bowl and mix with a little bit of paint. Add a squirt of dish soap to help with clean up.
The dish soap is optional but highly recommended if you are using food coloring to prevent staining and helps make for easier clean up.
2. A muffin tin is perfect for holding all the different colors of finger paint!
3. Paint a little, play a little, no rules except to have fun! The paint can be used with brushes or with your fingers — it’s a fun texture to squeeze between your fingers.
Another option is to make Marbled Prints first and just add dish soap to the leftover shaving cream from that project.
If you feel inspired you can easily work on some letter recognition by drawing and talking about letters in the paint.

I have used this over the years babysitting and more recently with my nephew. I LOVE it and so do the kids! Thanks for the tip of adding the dish soap though as I have never done so. Now I just hope I don’t forget next time!

I use to make a bathtub time paint like yours but I switched the dish soap out for baby shampoo so it was safe for my little ones eyes if he rubbed his face while he was painting in the tub. Love this fun activity and, I’m sure your kids love it, too! Thanks for sharing.

Side note: Where/what brand are those awesome paint brushes?
Alida says
Thank you! Those particular brushes are from Discount School Supply I believe. 🙂

How long does this last?
Alida says
We’ve always just made enough to use it all up the same day we make it. Thankfully it’s a really quick recipe to make up! 🙂
