There is one thing no one warned me about when I first become a mom – how fast time flies! The mixed emotions when they achieve their next milestone and you know they are growing up on you. There’s nothing we can do to slow down time, but we can slow down our busy lives and enjoy the moments. And after the moments pass we can save those memories in a special save box for the kids to keep as they grow up. The perfect place to start is with the baby memory box and then add to it as they grow.
Here is a huge list of suggestions on what to keep from those baby years, we suggest keeping 10-15 throughout the first year.

DIY BABY MEMORY BOX
Here’s what ours includes:
- Her first outfit
- Her favorite blankie
- A letter her daddy and I wrote her
- Her favorite little stuffed animal
- Her first shoes — they’re just so tiny I had to keep them for her!
- A few of her favorite, most loved books
- A SmashBook {we’re still adding to it – read how to make one here}
- Baby book — I made one on Shutterfly
More ideas:
- Coming home from hospital outfit
- First ultrasounds
- Hand Print and Foot print at birth and again at 1 {and/or a family footprint stack so they can see how small they were compared to the family}
- Hospital Blanket
- First holiday outfit(s)
- First birthday outfit
- Letters from mommy, daddy, both set of grandparents, etc.
- Favorite books so they can read them to their own kids one day
- First haircut, before and after pictures
- First hair bow
- First tie
- Favorite stuffed animal
- Printed baby pictures — in the age of technology we sometimes forget to actually print that photos we take but there’s something really special about actually holding hard copies of those early photos
- Cards from birth and first birthday
A few things to keep in mind:
Remember, don’t keep everything! That would be overload, just keep the things that come with the best memories. For example my daughter is a book worm and was from the time she was just a few months old. She absolutely loves when we read out loud to her, and even when we aren’t free you can find her flipping the pages of her board books — so a few of her favorite books was something I really want to be able to give her when she’s older.
Add items to the box only when they are done with it, no need to take away their favorite blanket to store while they still want it for their daily naps!
The box is also a great place to jot down dates of their firsts like: rolled over, crawling, first steps, first teeth, first words. You can write them on an index card and drop them in the box, that way you will be able to find the info when you go to update their baby book.

I found it on sale at a local store but I’ve seen similar boxes on Amazon too, like this one: http://amzn.to/2dixZyJ (affiliate).
