40 weeks exactly, on her due date, my daughter was born. I had set it in my mind that she would come late, so when my contractions started I remember wondering, “Am I ready?”
8.5 months old — that’s how big, or should I say little, my baby was when she took her first steps. I remember looking with disbelief as those chunky legs balanced her body and she walked right into her daddy’s arms.
Her first birthday — a day I never really thought would come. When she was born, a year seemed so far away! And yet here I was, buying a cake and wrapping her gift.
Each milestone caught me by surprise, feeling like I had barely enough time to grab my phone and swipe on the camera.
No one warned me that each day my daughter grows, my life rotates a little faster.
With each achievement she makes, I’m reminded to hug her a little tighter. I want to beg the world to slow down, but then I see her eyes sparkle as she learns yet another new thing. Waking, talking, running . . . she keeps going, she keeps growing. I squeeze her tight and then let her go and watch her run.
The only thing left for me to do is to hit capture on my phone camera, so I can store away this moment and one day share it with her.
In the moments she slows down long enough to sit next to me, we love watching those home videos of her together. She feels like a little superstar, especially when we can live stream them on the big screen. My eyes tear up while she giggles at herself. I’m raising a princess, a fighter, a girl that is going to do big things; but the only way she’ll be able to achieve those things is if I let her fly. It’s not time yet, but one day… and that day that will creep up all too soon.
Your kids can feel like little superstars too! Pop the popcorn and go all out, watching their moments with them on the big screen — there’s going to be a day when they’re all grown up and we’ll have missed our chance. There’s a downloaded mobile App from XFINITY®, with a new feature that allows subscribers to live-stream video to their TVs so our kiddos can see their crazy videos on the big screen too!
But even as I capture the moments, I feel like time is ticking too quickly. She’ll be grown before I know it. Sometimes I get angry — no one warned me how fast it would go! But in reality, what would that have changed? I’ve yet to find a way to slow it down. All I can do is squeeze my baby tight and try to capture every little moment I can.
