11 Teething Tips That Work!
Ever heard the phrase “keep it simple stupid” (KISS)? I love the phrase! It can be applied to so many things including teething. Stop over thinking it, just pick one at a time and try it out. For us it usually took a variation of about 3-4 things until my daughter was comfortable and sleeping peacefully again.
1. Mom’s Fingers
This one is almost too simple to list! It’s great when they are working on breaking their first teeth, they can suck and chew on mommy’s fingers while you snuggle. This is one of my favorite tricks because it requires no running to the freezer or misplacing a favorite teething toy. I always have it on hand, literally! 😉
It depends on the baby, some LOVE frozen toys and some can’t stand it at all. My daughter loved them. Here favorite were these teething rings. I made the mistake of just buying one in the beginning — there’s nothing worse than opening the freezer of emptiness. Learn from my mistake, if you’re baby ends up loving frozen teething toys, stock up!
“The minute our pediatrician said “it’s hurts so much that it itches” … it was a game changer for this mommy. I started freezing everything.” — Jana
Fill a netted food feeder (like this one) with frozen fruit, an ice cube, or some frozen breastmilk for both teething relief and a snack at the same time! I’m a huge fan of these fresh food feeders because there’s no worry about chocking either.
Or try an Organic Natulo Ice Teether.
“We use natulo ice teethers. Fill with ice or frozen milk and works wonders! Good luck mamas!” — Chris
This is one of those natural remedies that I was a little bit doubtful of at first, so I didn’t break down and buy one until my little one was a year old but now I’m sold. My next baby will have one around their neck from the start! It didn’t cure all our teething problems but it did seem to lessen the discomfort she was having. We bough a necklace similar to this one and keep it around her neck during the day and then transfer it to her ankle at night and nap-times.
“My little one has an amber necklace! She dribbles less, the rosy cheeks go away and she is more settled.” –Kara
5. Frozen Washcloth
Throw a wet washcloth in the freezer for a few minutes to “crisp” it up and then let them suck and chew on it.
This is one I’ve yet to try but plan to next time for sure. She’s a little pricey but everyone I’ve asked says it’s totally worth the investment.
There’s also a “teething-ring” version that’s a little more affordable.
7. Cranial Sacral Therapy
This one is pretty cool — making sure their alignment is right can help with teething! We tried it and when we were consistent with appointments it seemed to help! I talked with another mom who did it with all 5 of her kids and said it worked with all of them!
8. Hyland’s Baby Teething Tablets
“Hyland’s teething tablets work really well.” –Emily
“Hyland’s teething tablets are awesome!” — Jamie
10. Let Them Chew!
Let them chew on their toys, chew on their clothes, chew on their hands and chew on age appropriate food — it’s soothing for their gums.
“My 9 month old chews on a orthodontic pacifiers, along with teething beads, rings, frozen washclothes.” — Jamie
11. Teething Necklace (For Mom to Wear)
This is one of my favorites — it’s super cute and also practical! They are especially great if you hold your baby a lot or a baby-wearing fan, like me!
