We’re so excited to have Christie, from Sparkles of Sunshine, guest posting for us today! Check out this fun craft for kids, turning an old t-shirt into wall art!
Have you ever struggled with what to do with your child’s favorite t-shirt once it no longer fits? While many may choose to put an outgrown t-shirt into the donate pile, I suggest you try something different. Why not turn your child’s favorite tee into a fun piece of wall art? Today I’m going to show you how to turn a t-shirt into wall art, and I promise you’ll be amazed at just how simple it is to do!
For this project you will need the following:
- t-shirt
- embroidery hoop
- scissors
The size of the embroidery hoop you need will depend on the size of your child’s t-shirt. I used a 10 inch hoop for my project, but you may use a smaller one for smaller shirts. Also, I opted for these colorful plastic hoops, but you can use the plain wooden embroidery hoops for your project if you wish.
Now let’s get started! Start by cutting off the front of the t-shirt with a pair of scissors. Cut along the side seams of the shirt, around the sleeves and across the neck until you have one piece of fabric.
Now that you have your fabric ready, it’s time to add it to the hoops. Can you believe we’re almost halfway done already???
Place the bottom hoop on the table, then position the fabric centered over the hoop. Place the outer hoop on top of the fabric like in the picture below. If needed, adjust the fabric so that it is properly centered in the hoop.
Secure the hoop and fabric into place by tightening the screw at the top of the hoop.
Turn the hoop over and use the scissors to trim the excess fabric from the back of the hoop.
That’s all, folks! I told you it was an easy process! Now all you have to do is hang your new t-shirt wall art into place.
These two pieces of t-shirt wall art fit perfectly into this corner space of the room that really needed some added color. I love how much they brighten up the room, don’t you?
Who knew you could find such creative art pieces in the donate pile or in the back of a dresser drawer? The next time you notice your child’s t-shirt getting too snug, will you give this fun project a try? Be sure to stop by Sparkles of Sunshine for more crafty ideas!
