Middle of January marked 35 months of blogging. It still feels like a dream come true to be working from home, making a great income and spending tons of quality time with my kids.
I still remember the day I started this blog, chatting with Corey about it and then deciding to actually go for it. I was nervous, excited and curious to see what would come of it. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would become the sole income of our family.
Because it’s been such a life changer for us, I enjoy sharing my income reports to help inspire others moms who are thinking about starting a blog. It’s totally doable to make money on one, even if you aren’t tech savvy (I wasn’t at all when I started).
January Income
In January 2017, we made $5,619 blogging.
Every month I get so excited as I total up the income for the month. I am proud of January. It still feels like a dream that Corey and I can both work from home. You guys know how much I love spending time with my family and am all about helping everyone spend more with theirs!
Let’s compare to the month before.
December 2016: $9,592
January was down by $3973 — this is something we’re ok with, we’ve been spending a lot of time shifting our focus to be even more beneficial for our readers (so we’ve been saying no to a lot of paid work that doesn’t quite fit), we’ve also been focusing a lot more on long-term goals and setting ourselves up for those (we’re expecting some big things by the end of 2017!).
Total this year so far: $5,619 😉
Total all-time blog income: $179,994.19
Since life is still in transition it’s hard to track exactly how many hours Corey and I work. My best guess would be around 25-30 hours total between the 2 of us. Some of those hours are worked side-by-side (while the kids are napping, etc), other times one of us works while the other hangs out with the kids. We are also slowly building our dream team to help as the blog grows. Right now we have an executive assistant, Hali, who started a few months ago and right now works 1 morning a week.
Where Does The Income Come From?
Affiliate Income: $1,810 — This is income I earn by recommending stuff I adore — companies give me a small percent as a thank you for referring customers to them. And the price of the product is the exact same for my readers.
Display Ads: $2,425 — These are the advertisements that you see on my site in the sidebar, etc.
Sponsored Posts and/or Social Shares: $225 — If you are a blogger looking for sponsored posts, 2 great companies to get started with are IZEA and/or TapInfluence.
175 Best Date Ideas: $501 — The book I wrote in month 24 of blogging while I was on “maternity leave” with my second child.
Successful Startup: $658 — A course for moms on how to establish the right foundation for successful, highly-profitable blog. Helping you create passive income so you can spend more time with your family.
Total: $5,619
Minus expenses (they currently average around $906) and setting aside a portion for taxes since we are now self-employed.
All-in-all a great month and I could not be happier.
