It’s almost that time again! I procrastinate every year when it comes to organizing and cleaning out my garage. Between winter’s mud and dirt, my husband dragging things out of the attic for various holidays, and me just needing to get to something “really quick” my garage quickly looks like a disaster zone. Trust me I am not exaggerating when I tell you we have a 3 car garage, and by the end of Winter, only 1 car can fit! This Spring I am determined to clean it out and organize it so everything has a “home” so to speak! This way when the chaos that is winter hits, I can be ready.
Just like any space, including my kid’s playroom, I have learned if it’s not organized, they tend to not want to use the space, this includes our garage…
DIY Garage Organization Tips
1. Attic Stairs with Storage!
My first biggest tip, DO NOT use your attic for storage. That’s right I said it. If its in your attic and you don’t use it at least once a year, you don’t need it! I now use my attic to hide Birthday presents! Here is my favorite DIY project for the garage: Built in Stairs with Storage to the attic for easy access.
2. Ladder Storage Hack
Hang those large ladders, by suspending them.
3. DIY Tape Dispenser
Consolidated, make things easy to find and use, this DIY Jumbo Tape Dispenser I even use!
4. Jar Hack for Nails
Screw Baby Jars to the top of a shelf for Small screw and nail storage!
5. Spray Paint Cans in a Shoe Organizer
Lots of half used bottles of Spray Paint laying around? Try using a shoe Organizer!
6. Extension Cord Hack
Extension cords are things that can’t be put in a bin, we use them too much, make them accessible by using Chains and a Coat Hook.
7. Gardening Tools Storgage Hack
Get the Gardening Tools out of the corner, and off of leaning haphazardly against the wall, and use PVC pipes to safely store them!
… And If you are anything like us, the kids have somehow overtaken and almost need their own “Parking Garage” for all the bikes, balls, and scooters! Here are some of our favorite ways to help organize the Kid’s Toys.
8. Ball Organizer Hack
This DIY Ball organizer was so simple I put ours together myself! Bungee Cords and couple of Boards!
9. Bike Parking
Have a place so the kids know where to park Bikes and Scooters! This DIY Parking Rack is perfect.
10. Screen Door!
I also adore this! Check out this retractable Garage Door Screen! Let the kids play outside on a Rainy Day, or let them run off some energy and not worry they are running into the road!
11. Ceiling Storage
For all your miscellaneous things you have to store, like summer inflatables, life jackets, holiday decorations, and memory box items check out this step by step above the garage door sliding storage system.
12. Entrance Shelf
Have a place for kids to kick off play shoes and yard work shoes by the door. Add a skinny shelf with baskets!
13. Hang Summer Furniture from the Ceiling
Lastly once the long lazy days of summer are over, store your summer furniture on the roof of the garage so its protected year around from the weather!

I love this list especially the patio table on the ceiling, that is a great idea!
Mary says
That patio table on the ceiling looks dangerous – it could cause someone serious injury if they walked into it. Only feasible in garages with high ceilings (or very short families).
