Debt freedom – it’s a pretty cool thing! But if you’re in a spot where it look like a really far away dream, don’t give up! We have some very realistic ideas for you today on becoming debt free!
Save money on the small stuff
Small stuff adds up way too quickly! A whole bunch of small spending can be way worse than large spending because most of the time you don’t realize how much you are spending.
- Make coffee at home
- Make your own homemade creamer
- Eat leftovers for lunch
- Rent a movie instead of going to the movie theater (or even better see what movies your friends own and borrow from them!)
- Instead of paying a babysitter, trade babysitting days with another mom
- Stretch your haircuts a little further apart
- Watch a video tutorial on how to cut your husband’s hair
- Meal plan instead of throwing together last minute meals (you’ll be shocked at how much time and money this will save! Stop by our recipes page if you need inspiration.)
- Have a date night at home. {See this list of 175 Inexpensive Date Ideas including some at home dates.}
- Skip the huge, stressful vacation and opt for a bunch of mini vacations instead.
- See the complete list of ways to spend less money AND ways to make money {from home} here.
After you save transfer that money right away!
Congrats! You stopped yourself from spending $4.45 on a mocha – awesome! Now move that money right away to a savings account. I love using my mobile banking for this but you can also make yourself a note and transfer the money when you get home or on your next visit to the bank.
I’ve also used this trick if a bill, like our electric, is a little lower one month, I’ll transfer the difference right away into our savings.
Consolidate your debt into one payment
Combine your credit card balances into one payment. You can then use the money in the savings account (from above) to pay off debt!
Use Payoff to get rid of your credit card balances so you can move forward in your life and achieve your dreams.
The process is quick and easy and they have amazing support! One of my favorite features is their live chat — ask a real person your questions!
Payoff is in the business of empowering people to become more financially healthy and live their dreams. Pretty cool! {To stay connected with them check out their Facebook page.}
Note: Completing the application for Payoff does NOT impact your credit score.
Enjoy debt freedom
When you’re done with your debt {YAY!} keep up your great new habits, save towards an emergency fund and enjoy some fun money doing what you’ve always dreamed! Let’s make 2015 a year for our dreams, if you can dream it you can do it! {We love living debt free! Here’s us using our fun money for an eat out night.}
