Life gets busy and sometimes we forget to make time for the most important things, like our kids. We take for granted how much time we get to spend with them but forget that there’s a difference between quantity & quality. I know, I’m guilty too. Here’s an easy solution: set up a date night with each kid — a specific day each week or month that they can look forward to.
We also have a great budgeting tip at the end of the post from our sponsors, the Visa Clear Prepaid program and the Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card. Now sit back and enjoy these date ideas and then leave a comment if you have any more to add!
Note: This post is named “Mother-Daughter” Date Ideas because I only have a daughter. But you could definitely use these date ideas with your son as well! And let daddy use these date ideas with the kids too!
Mark your date on the calendar so you don’t accidentally double book yourself. There’s nothing worse than promising something to your kids and then flaking out. And during that date I’d encourage you to turn your phone on silent. I’ve been trying to make a habit of this lately that way my daughter knows that she is more important to me than social media notifications & texts. It’s been strangely relieving having those moments where my phone isn’t vibrating and instead I can study my daughter and see things that before I was missing out on.
Every date doesn’t have to be complicated. If you’re short on time one week pick one of the simpler dates. You can always do something a little over the top the following week. It’s also a great lesson for your kids to learn that it’s not always something expensive that equals awesome bonding time with mom. But it’s also fun to blow them away every once and a while. There can be room for both, just create a balance that works.

Budgeting Tip
Setting aside an allotted amount each month from your budget that is specifically for these dates is extremely helpful. This way you won’t stress over money when it comes time to take your kids out. The Green Dot® Reloadable Prepaid Visa® Card is a resource to look into for helping to make sure the money you set aside stays set aside for your dates without accidentally getting spent on something else.
I really appreciate that the card is upfront about its fees — transparency is important to me. And it offers protection so you can stress less and instead do the things you love — like hanging out with your kids! Definitely something to look into if you’ve been struggling with your budget. You don’t want money to be the thing holding you back from a great time with your kids.
