6 tips for organizing small spaces
1. Minimize. This seems like a no brainer but we all fall into the trap of accumulating a little here and there until it’s just too much to handle. Getting in a habit of constantly removing and decluttering is very important if you’re living in a small place.
2. Find items that have multiple uses. Instead of having a whole closet full of board games we have a few favorites and then several decks of cards — it’s amazing how many games can be played with them!
3. Get rid of the knick-knacks. Shelves filled with knick-knacks that don’t have a purpose don’t do well in small spaces — that same shelf space can go to much better use storing your Essentials!
4. Think vertical. Whenever you can go up instead of going wide, do it! Skip the long horizontal dressers and opt for 2 tall dressers instead. Add a cute shelf over the toilet. And utilize the space above washer and dryers (or go for stackable washer/dryers sets.)
5. Save on bed space. Beds take up a lot of room so it’s a great place to get creative and save space. A few options are:
- Bunk beds or loft beds.
- Skip the bulky headboard & footboard.
- Build or buy drawers for under your mattress.
- Go down a bed size.
- Buy a futon or fold-out-couch to use for bed space when guests visit.
- Make a DIY Wall Bed
6. Use wall space for storage & not just decorating.
- Hang guitars on the wall using guitar hangers.
- We love our wall wine rack because it doubles as decoration & storage!
