Since the arrival of our Little Lady life has been pretty hectic for us. Growing from a family of three who get plenty of sleep to a sleep deprived family of four has been a steep learning curve, especially with an energetic toddler to entertain too.
One of the greatest challenges we have faced has been finding ways to occupy Buddy, whilst I am nursing Little Lady. At two years old Buddy is exceptionally inquisitive and energetic, a dangerous combination! He still needs some assistance and supervision during a lot of activities to prevent injury to himself or to divert him from mischievous behaviour. To keep stress levels to a minimum we have been concentrating on activities that Buddy can complete safely with just verbal guidance, or one handed assistance.
Painting with Water
Buddy really enjoyed this simple chalk board cleaning activity. He loves painting and making a mess so this was an awesome “Hands Free Mum” activity. I simply set up a bowl of water and a paintbrush next to Buddy’s Chalk Board and verbally guided him to clean it.
Buddy enjoyed splashing in the water and cleaning up the chalk with both his brush and his hands. Because his board is quite tall it turned into quite a fun gross motor activity, with lots of stretching, reaching and jumping required to clean the entire board.
We also took the opportunity to talk about the Colours of the Rainbow which we have been working on recently. Buddy is still adamant that every colour is either Pink or Orange, but its a work in progress… He’s still only two.
