Have a minute? I have an exciting family dinner challenge to share with you!
Family dinners are important to us, a time when the family can come together to re-connect with each other after a busy day. We have noticed though that if we don’t make a specific point to be distraction free, the distractions get in the way without us even realizing it.
So you can image how excited we were when we heard Dixie® launched their #DarkForDinner movement.
The #DarkForDinner movement encourages us to turn off the television and computers, put down our cell phones and any other electronic devices that might distract us from each other. It’s all about being more present and and being more intentional about the time we have together.
We are making the pledge to go #DarkForDinner this upcoming Sunday. We are keeping it simple, with just the three of us, my husband, daughter and me. We love having breakfast for dinner so I’m planning to make some French Toast with Turkey Bacon — a family favorite!
Here’s what I’m looking forward to most: Instead of the vibrating sound of my phone I’ll get to enjoy laughter and conversation with my family. Creating memories and forging stronger relationships with each other through meaningful, distraction free time together.
To help us stay distraction free, we’re planning to collect all the electronic in a basket — all the items that are not welcome at the dinner table on Sunday (the kids can help with this!). It’s a great, visual reminder to stay focused on the family during dinner.
I’ve even added my camera to the basket, because I’ve noticed as much as I love having pictures and memories there’s a time to put the camera down and get out from the behind the lens and just take mental picture memories and enjoy genuine time with my family. And, of course, cell phone and remotes have been added to the basket as well.
I’m really looking forward to the distraction free, quality time together!
Dixie® has become an iconic American product making life simpler and clean-up easier so we can worry less about chores and spend more time on what matters most, our family! Their #DarkForDinner movement is just another great example of what they stand for.
Will you join us in going dark this coming Sunday?
