Birthday’s only come ONCE A YEAR, that’s a really long time for kids! Celebrating half birthdays is such a fun way to celebrate with our kids in an easy, low stress way.
I know it sounds a little out-of-the-box, crazy and maybe even a little over the top to celebrate half birthday’s and to be honest, it kinda is, but the time we have with our kids is so short I really want to make the most of every opportunity.
Think about it, we only have 18 birthday’s to celebrate with our kids before they are grown up and a few of those early ones they won’t even remember.
For half birthday’s think silly, simple and small. If it’s big, expensive, or stressful it doesn’t belong.
Simple half birthday ideas:
- Buy them their favorite candy bar as their gift
- Let them eat their favorite sugar cereal for breakfast
- Skip chores for the day
- Special trip to the ice cream shop
- Let them choose a favorite thing to do: picnic at the park, day at the zoo, etc. If their birthday lands on a school day you can always carry over their special thing to the closest weekend day.
Theme things around the word “half” whenever possible:
- Make their favorite lunch {Half a mini pizza would be fun!}
- Buy or bake a cake and then cut it in half before serving it! 🙂
- Decorate half of the dining room table or half of a room all birthday and leave the other half as is.
And remember, if anything gets stressful then tone it down. Half birthday aren’t for going over the top, they’re about doing one or two small simple things to make your kids feel a little extra-special.
