Ever wondered how to eat organic and still stay on budget? Me too! Then my husband and I realized we were either going to pay now or pay later for our health. To my happy surprise going organic has not only been easier than I thought but it also hasn’t cost anywhere as much as I anticipated; plus we feel even better than I could have imagined. Your family can do it too!
Here’s a great video, from ClifBar.com, to help inspire you. It’s of an organic oat farmer and the decision he has made for his family to stay away from the pesticides. {After the video keep reading for 7 tips oh how to eat organic, stay on budget and remain stress free.}
I love that he’s chosen organic farming instead of just opting for the “easier” conventional way. Kudos to him for believing in something and following through! Let’s not let his work go to waste — and take advantage of the opportunity organic farmers provide us to feed out kids healthier foods!
How to Eat Organic:
Make one small change at a time. — This way you won’t get overwhelmed and you’ll be more likely to stick to the change.
Remember life is a balance, you can only do so much. — We use the 80/20 rule in this house. We try to eat the best we can 80% of the time, and the other 20% is left for an occasional treat, eating out, holidays, etc.
Prioritize which foods to buy organic. — The Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen are a great starting reference for produce specifically.
Save money in other areas so you can increase your food budget slightly. — You might even be surprised and spend less. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ll save when you stop buying processed junk food.
Make a little extra money on the side. — There are so many ways you can do that. Start a blog. Join Essential Oils. Have a garage sale. Consign your kids too-small clothes. Etc.
Cook more from home to save money. — See our Recipe page for menu item ideas!
Grab a CLIF® Bar {made with organic oats!} — We’ve been really impressed with Clif Bar & Company and their decision to use organic ingredients in their products. They make quick, easy, organic snacks that we can grab whenever we are in a rush. {I also try to keep a bar in my diaper bag in case I get caught somewhere unexpectedly, which somehow happens more than you would think!}
