Do you have a little fur ball around your house? My 2 year old absolutely loves cats and there are so many reasons to have one! If you don’t already have a cat at your house yet, here are 3 reasons why you should let your kids get a cat!
3 Reasons Why You Should Let Your Kids Get a Cat
1. Teaches Responsibility
Taking care of animals is a perfect chore for little ones. Create a chart that helps remind them of their daily responsibilities: feeding the cat, keeping his water full, etc.
Here’s my 2 year old helping feed Jackson his Party Mix:
2. Calming
Have an anxious child who is easy stressed and worries often? We’ve noticed on many occasions that petting Jackson and playing with him has helped calm nerves.
3. Fun & Loving
Cats are fun loving little creatures and help make childhood much more joyful.
My toddler LOVED giving Jackson his new Friskies Pull ’n Play toy and watching him play with it and Jackson had a blast! I don’t know if my toddler or Jackson had more fun!
This holiday season, consider surprising your kids with a sweet little kitty (or 2!) and then let your kids help you pick out some fun gifts for him like Friskies Pull ’n Play! (Or if you already own a cutie, like Jackson, skip step one but do still go with your kids to pick out a few fun toys for him/her!)
The Friskies Pull ‘n Play is awesome because it’s not only a toy but an edible treat as well, so they can play and snack! The edible string comes in 3 flavors that cats love: Chicken & Cheese Flavor, Salmon & Shrimp Flavor, Tuna & Crab Flavor.

We have one cat named Witten. She is very tolerant of the small people who have come into her life, especially since one of my oldest girl’s chores is to feed Witten.

We have 2 kitties, AJ 1.5 yrs (M – Black American Short) and Dixie 2 yrs (F – Orange American Short) the babies of the family! We all like to take them out for their walks (yes, on a leash). Everybody loves feeding them their wet food, children and adults. The litter box on the other hand, seems be be my sole responsibility, although taking the trash out is the kids…lol

We brought this itty-.bitty puff ball home last June. Our two year old daughter got to hold him for the first time, hugging him snugly in her car seat. It was love at first sight. We brought him home, welcomed him into this new, strange, scary world, and little Lo was right there, walking him through the house, introducing him to his cat house and cat in house-out house. My wife named him Samwise Gamgee, because she knew that this particular creature would become one of the best friends ever. Now a year on, Lo makes sure her Samwise is taken care of, she helps feed him and makes sure his water is always full. When she cries, Sam is there. When she is restless, Sam is there. When she needs a friend, Sam is there.

We have 2 cats. One is a rescue named Darnell but we call him Mr. Meowgi. My 1 1/2 year old loves to cuddle and pet him. He has learned alot about being gentle from him and Darnell has started coming over to him to get attention. Our other is from a farm and is fuzzy. She is still pretty nervous around our little guy and has only started being brave enough to stay in the same too with him. Our little guy hasn’t done any chores yet with the cats but loves playing, petting, and cuddling.

We had one cat we adopted about 2 years ago. My daughter named her Super Starlight. But EVERYONE (including my daughter) calls her kitty for short. This year for Christmas we adopted a second kitten (it’s a surprise for my daughter) so she does not have a name yet. We are all guessing at what she will come up with! So far our guesses are: C’mere, Ivana and Cat.
That way she can call both kitties at the same time
“C’mere, kitty”
“Ivana Kitty”
“Kitty Cat”

Our cat Lenny was 3 when our daughter was born. He followed me and sat on the bed whenever I nursed. He would paw at me when she cried but when she became mobile he started running away. He did swat at her a few times and barely got her once, pretty close to her eye. We knew he didn’t mean it he was just scared by her. But we did have to keep a close watch over them for awhile. Our daughter loves Lenny and keeps trying. She’s now almost 3 and he’s just starting to let her pet him. He still paws me when she cries.

We have two cats. Halo is a beautiful female white with some grey siamese cat. Mr. Pickles is Halo’s brother and he is all black with big yellow eyes siamese cat. We rescued these two kitties 2 1/2 years ago. We also have an 8 year old blue wiemerinier dog named Bella, and she is a rescue dog. My home is me, two boys aged 14 and 8, 2 kitties, and one dog (and yes we all fit into my bed for those rare days we snuggle and watch movies). My youngest son is a special needs child. Halo is his best friend and is basically his therapy cat. She is amazing with him! Bella and Mr. Pickles are bestest of friends. He follows her, guides her, and makes sure her food bowl is full (he is very concerned about Bella and tells me when to feed her). We all three participate in the care of all three animals. I do clean out the litter box and pick up doggie poop. I just feel that is my job. My special needs child feeds Halo as part of his chores. My oldest son feeds Mr. Pickles as part of his chores. I feed Bella. Our kitties love to play ball, hide and go seek, play “boo”, and are the best snugglers. I am a single mother with 5 kiddos I often say. Two children, two kitties and one dog. Life is full of blessings. 🙂
